Change of Name

An adult is entitled to change their surname and/or forenames if they wish and the change can simply be evidenced through the preparation of a formal Deed. Franklins can prepare such Deeds.

The law relating to the change of children’s names is more complicated. Generally, the change of a child’s name will require the consent of all those with parental responsibility or the consent of the court.

Franklins can give further advice on how and when it is appropriate to change a child’s name and we can prepare the necessary Deed if the change can be agreed, or pursue any Court Application under the Children Act.
